Kopps (2003)

When a small town police station is threatened with shutting down because of too little crime, the police realise that something has to be done...

A group of policemen are told that the lack of crime in their town doesn't justify keeping the station open and Headquarters has decided to close it in three months. In response, they kinda decide to look for and in certain cases create crime to boost their stats and prove they are needed. Eventually things blow up when they stage a kidnapping and the SWAT team shows up, kicking off a chain of events leading to them literally being caught with their pants down.

Kopps is ridiculous, but hilarious. It is like a cross between Reno 911 and Super Troopers that features outlandish fantasy sequences and a lot of awkward comedy.  It moves slow in the beginning, but there's comedy and everything picks up after the announcement. If you come across it, give it a shot. How else would you get to see this scene?

Frostbitten (2006)

A mother and daughter move into a new house in a new town as the mother has gotten a job with a world renowned geneticist who is secretly using his job as a cover to both contain and advance a brewing vampire plague. In secret, he's been creating an experimental a pill that he intended to be the next step in vampire evolution. The pills induce vampirism in those that are unaffected and contains the virus in those that are.

One of the junior doctors, finds a pill and takes it like a true junkie. Soon after, he breaks into the doctor's lab and steals the rest, which are stolen from him by one of his junkie friends looking to score for a party. They are introduced as party favors and are eventually put into the punch for everyone to consume.

By the time they've turned and eaten everyone else the police are ill equipped to deal with their numbers and the door is left wide open to a third lost boys sequel.

Frostbitten was okay, but just that. You can see the influences of certain American films, (lost boys, daywalkers) but the cool thing that they added to the genre is glowing red eyes and sequences in the dark where that's all that can be seen. That was a pretty good visual effect. But outside of that and maybe a few comedic scenes (namely involving a garlic braised dinner) but I found myself a little bored. It's worth a watch to see how they handle the genre in other countries, but it isn't a must see.

Sound of Noise (2010)

In this absurdist comedy, only a tone deaf cop can stop six renegade percussionists who use their surroundings as instruments to create sonic chaos.

A woman sets a metronome and speeds down a highway while her partner rocks out on the drums. After an interaction with a motorcycle cop messes up their flow, they chuck the instruments and ditch the van. It turns out that they are artists, looking to cleanse the city of crappy music and to that end, they get working on their grand symphony entitled "music for the city and six drummers."

"Music for the city and six Drummers," is their four part musical masterpiece created with non-musical instruments, specifically. Each act is more daring, bold and illegal than the last and they manage to pull them off successfully, only being caught at the end of the show.

Amadeus Warnerbring is a tone deaf cop who was born to a very musically inclined family. Needless to say he hates music and is the black sheep his family. He has taken on this case because he hates music. He also discovers that whatever they use as instruments loses their sound (to him) and he has to find them before his world goes completely silent.

Sound of Noise has to be one of the most original and creative movies that I have ever seen. Granted it's foreign, (meaning it could have been done before) but it's still something that seems 100% original, so I gravitated toward it. That's what grabbed my attention.

For obvious reasons, there is a lot of music in this film and it works. Never becomes overbearing. They've used power lines, bulldozers, and even live people and the sound mixing was done well enough to where I could see shit like this being real.

Violence? No
Explosions? Musical...Explosions?
Nudity? Yeah, but nothing worth it. Trust me.
