Gangs of New York - 2002

When his father is killed in New York City, Amsterdam Vallon returns in 1863 to hunt down his father's killer, the ruthless, Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting. It's not easy for Amsterdam as gangs roam a corrupt New York City, with Bill Cutting ruling over everyone.

By now, everyone has seen this flick, so it'll just say this:


What is it with Martin Scorcese and long Fucking films? There should be a rule where the longest you can make your film is 2 hrs. If you can't get your point across in 120min, you've failed and should lose out on potential revenue.

Back on topic, Gangs is actually a pretty good movie and both DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis kill in their roles. It also serves as a lesson in the bloody history of New York. Still, It shouldn't take 3 1/2 hrs to tell the story of a son who vows vengeance towards the man who killed his father. But if you've got the attention span, it works.

Out of Ten? 7.5

Violence? Lots bloody gang violence + armed forces. Looting, Rioting, and at one point, even Cameron Diaz gets punched in the face. You couldn't ask for anything more.
Explosions? Yup Especially when the military steps in.
Nudity? No.

Manly Cinema

The movie landscape has changed. No longer do we have the macho man shooting and kung-fuing people, sexing women and swearing like a sailor the whole time. We get movies about Kung-Fu Pandas, and pussified heroes, shitty versions of Bond and a general "family friendly" atmosphere. I'm not against a family atmosphere, movies can be broad and all encompassing. But the "protect the children" line  and the "let's not be offensive to anyone" is being used to wipe out all traces of our former masculinity.

Everything offends somebody. When does protecting children mean we should shun the action hero who kills the bad guys and sexes the ladies? Its really been few and far between for 1 man army movies (Taken, Rambo, Predator, Black Dynamite)

President Freeman has had enough of your shit!

I have a problem with Hollywood. Actually, I have a lot of problems with Hollywood, but this one in particular bugs me. Why is it that, in every movie in which there is a Negro President, the world is either destroyed or will be shortly?

Speak on it! - Grindhouse

 I liked Grindhouse. I think its impact is actually very culturally underrated. Not only did the Tarantino and Rodriguez movies pay homage to the genre, they actually intrigued me enough to go back and watch a few of these flicks, to see what I've been missing.

With that being said, the movies were a commerical flop. Not because they weren't any good. The movies flopped because somebody thought that it would be a good idea to release Grindhouse on Easter-fucking-Weekend. Why and Who The Fuck, thought that would be a good idea is beyond me. Common-Fucking-Sense dictates that no one would go see this type of movie on that weekend.

Easter Weekend is for Jesus, Tyler Perry movies, Pixar movies, or even something involving Queen Latifiah. Not for movies indulging in sex and violence. Duh!

You learned a hard lesson, Hollywood. It upsets me that it came at the expense of two good movies.

Please get your head on straight.

Speak on it! - Horror movies not in October

Nightmare on Elm Street sucks. Not because its another remake. I think it sucks because it doesn't have the balls to come out in October when movies like this should be released. Why the fuck is every studio so scared of releasing near Saw? Saw VII is going to be filmed in 3D. Also this year, we'll see a return of Cary "I sawed my leg off at the end of the 1st movie" Elwes. Whoopty-fuckin-doo. Hey Hollywood, Saw has been out for close to 8 years now and each year it has seen a slight drop off in ticket sales. I'm aware that 3D is a dick that you've all jumped on and are riding to orgasm in the form of profits, but look here, its a gimmick that you use to "ensure a profitable film." With that logic, you're probably thinking, Saw in 3D will be unbeatable.
