...The Karate Kid (aka Karate Kid Black around here)
1) It is an unnecessary remake that's very inconsistent. I know that's all the rage lately, but seriously why?
2) Jackie Chan teaches him Kung-Fu NOT Karate and the studios are aware and refuse to acknowledge this. (The reason its not called The Kung-Fu Kid is simple, it will make more money if it uses the old name as it will generate much more buzz at a lower cost. (ie easy marketing).
3) Jaden Smith. He sucked in The Pursuit of Happiness, but he didn't have to act then. Can he carry this movie?

You are so wrong with this movie. I thought it was great! Good to see a solid remake of an original classic. It is okay to put a twist or two in the story. It was predictable yet enjoyable to watch. Put the haterade down dude and just enjoy the movie for what it is. Jaden Smith did a fantastic job acting along side Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson and kung-fu movie legend, Jackie Chan. The fight scenes were believable and the training sequences were spectacular. This movie was filled with life's great lessons. Totally inspirational.
You wouldn't understand that behind your cloud of hate. You probably need someone to show you kung-fu. I'll see if Jaden Smith is available!
Karate Kid 2010 is a gem! Already a classic!

3) It just might be a decent movie, but I haven't yet seen it and I still stand by my initial three reasons.
Thing is, if they wanted it to not be compared to another movie, they should have made an original movie and not a remake.
Plain and simple, It is a remake. For all of the changes and new characters, Karate Kid Black will forever be compared to the Karate Kid and it will come up short.
If anything, the movie is probably unnecessary but tolerable.

Karate Kid IS a remake of the original and a damn good one at that! They are far from coming up short with this movie. This movie ROCKS! In fact, I think it tops the former because Smith and Chan's characters have far more screen presence and characteristic than Macchio and Morita's. Additionally, the storyline is better and more realistic than the original '84 movie.
Based on the success of this movie, Jaden Smith will be able to show you HIS own money. He's loaded with potential and charisma, just like his Pops!
Damn, go and see the movie before you say anything else!!!

That was never intended to be a review.
If and when I decide to watch this flick, I doubt my opinion will change. If anything, this movie will always be unnecessary but tolerable.
Also, I strongly doubt that it "ROCKS." Very few movies do these days.
As for the statement about it coming up short:
There have been very few, if any, remakes that have surpassed the original in quality and content. I meant that to be a broad statement, but I'm specifically applying it to this flick.
