The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie
More fun for fans
What's that you say? A drawn together direct to DVD movie? Yes.
For real-real? Not for play-play? Yep. Its real.
For those not in the know, Drawn Together the TV series ran for 3 seasons before cancellation. It was a animated spoof of reality tv (big brother in particular) and the characters were animated versions of the people you'd normally see. (ie. The frat bro, the virgin, the gay guy, etc.) The show was also known for its black comedy and gross out humor. With that being said, clearly an uncensored and unrated movie was the next logical step towards closure.
Trapped In The Closet (1-22)

I don't know what I can say about this ridiculous hip-hopera. I sat through all 22 chapters in one sitting and the longer it went on, the more interesting it became. You know that Aristocrats joke that gets worse and worse and as it goes on, it actually become funny? That's Trapped in the Closet in a nutshell. By the end, you're actually upset that its done.
Speak on It! - Negro Presidents in Film
I have a problem with Hollywood. Actually, I have a lot of problems with Hollywood, but this one in particular bugs me. Why is it that, in every movie in which there is a Negro President, the world is either destroyed or will be shortly?
Ahem:
The 5th Element = Zeus aka Tiny Lister
Deep Impact = Morgan Freeman
2012 = Danny Glover
24 = Dennis Hayesburt(President Palmer)
24 = D.B. Woodside(Wayne Palmer aka President Palmer lite)
Idiocracy = Terry Crews
Good or not, these were projects with money thrown behind them.
Tuesdays Just Got Super!
Here is the trailer for ABC's "No Ordinary Family."
It is essentially an action/drama about a bland family who gains abilities from a plane crash.
It looks watchable to me, but what do I know? I'll give it 2 episodes and go from there...

A Perfect Getaway (2009)
Poster via (Shockya)
IMDB provides the plot:
"For their honeymoon, newlyweds Cliff and Cydney head to the tropical islands of Hawaii. While journeying through the paradisaical countryside the couple encounters Kale and Cleo, two disgruntled hitchhikers and Nick and Gina, two wild but well-meaning spirits who help guide them through the lush jungles. The picturesque waterfalls and scenic mountainsides quickly give way to terror when Cliff and Cydney learn of a grisly murder that occurred nearby and realize that they're being followed by chance acquaintances that suspiciously fit the description of the killers."
As the movie wares on, everyones performances change accordingly. Jovovich, especially, puts in an incredible performance as her acting, speech patterns and mannerisms are all different from what we've seen in her past roles. You would never think that it was her who starred in Resident Evil and Ultraviolet.
A Perfect Getaway is a surprisingly decent movie with an above average twist. Smarter fans may figure it out immediately, but the fun is how the twist is implemented and how the rest of the movie is done after the reveal. The movie drags on a bit towards the end, but the performances keep it afloat.
The trailer didn't sell the movie too well so I skipped it and later picked it up on a friend's recommendation. Turns out it is a solid flick overall and worth watching.
Violence? Shit man. People get shot, People get stabbed, and there's one scene with a knife that is cringe inducing.
Explosions? Nope.
Nudity? From the side view or implied. The Director missed an opportunity. True, its not necessary for this flick, but nudity juxtaposed with the beautiful Hawaiian backdrop, would have made the movie more enjoyable.
Tango & Cash

Kick Ass
Kick Ass...does not actually kick any ass whatsoever.
Oh, Mighty IMDB, lay that plot on me:
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.Full disclosure, I was one of those people who "read the book first." Traditionally this means that what I'll expect and what I get will be two different things. I accept that, but this movie overall, was more lighthearted than the comic. Rumor attribute that to Nic Cage, but that's another topic.
Daybreakers
The plot (courtesy of IMDB):
In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.
Meh.
Date Night (2010)
Date Night is about a boring New Jersey couple who decide to shake off their rust and have a night out together in NYC. In the process, they steal a dinner reservation and run afoul of mobsters, crooked cops, and a crooked District Attorney.
Splice
Splice, releasing June 3rd 2010 is a new Sci-Fi thriller starring Adrien Brody.
Plot:
Here is the trailer:
The trailer doesn't sell me, and this looks like it will be bad. Not terrible, just bad. At best, it may be a decent B-Flick.
Plot:
Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named "Dren", the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.Oh, what's that? An unethical science experiment gone wrong? Of Course it is.

Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil
"Horns don't win wars, awesome wins wars!" - The #1 rule in life:
Awesome wins everything.
Kick Buttowski is a badass Disney (Disney? yup.) cartoon about a boy who dreams of being a pro daredevil. He talks like a bad ass and lives his live like one. His older brother is one of his bigger antagonists and his younger sister is a spoiled brat. This helps to round out the show and gives kick the opportunity to perform some stunt work at home as well. His hetero lifemate Gunther serves as his BFF and stunt-coordinator who also provides the comedic relief.
Kick Buttowski is a genuine badass and the show is based on a near perfect mix of comedy and badassery. For some odd reason, he is drawn with an extra large ass, but that only adds to the comedy.
The show itself is all types of awesome, from the guitar riff and catchy vocals of the intro, to the physics defying action of the show. The situations and stunts that Kick get himself into are ridiculous, but in my opinion they are easier to swallow since its a cartoon and not a movie.
I've posted the show's intro/theme after the jump.
The Killers vs. Night & Day
How are these not the same movie? And aren't they both Mr.& Mrs.Smith knockoffs?
So basically, when these movies drop, we will finally determine who America/The World prefers, Tom Cruise or Ashton Kutcher. Either way, they both suck. Also, Cameron Diaz and Katherine Heigl don't count in this discussion, because they are just eye-candy.

Tony Stark/Iron Man. Sitting On Top Of The World...(via)
I cobbled together these Iron Man 2 reviews. I haven't seen the flick myself, but I figure these might help.
I Heart Chaos:
And so you could take Iron Man 2 just within its 90 minutes and say that it wasn't this or that, or you could look at it as part of a larger whole, which is how it's intended to be received. I do agree that perhaps that there wasn't quite as much polish it seemed at times with Iron Man 2 as their was with the original, but the end result-- the thing as a whole-- is much better. Anyway, Iron Man's not about brooding and getting all moody and hiding in the shadows. That's Batman's job. Iron Man is more about kicking ass and having a damn good time doing it. Oh, and suitcase armor. I want some.
Topless Robot:
To sum up (and repeat myself): Iron Man 2 is very much a comic movie sequel. the first one set up the premise, the characters and the world, now the sequel focuses on being bigger and more badass. Iron Man 2 certainly does that and does it very well, making it totally entertaining. I don't think I'm wrong for wishing that IM2 was a little slower and more character driven, but I also don't blame you if you like IM2 better because it is significantly more awesome than the original. Maybe the reason I'm complaining about this is that RDJ's Stark is such a great character I wish I could have spent more time with him in the sequel. If so, that's a hell of a good problem for the Iron Man movie franchise to have.
Pajiba:
All of which is to say: Yes, there are flaws in Iron Man 2 and an overly meticulous critic with a buzzkill boner could get stuck in the morass and fail to see the forest for the mushmouth. My biggest fear about the movie was quelled, too, which was that all of the extra characters would take the focus off the movie’s biggest asset: Robert Downey, Jr. But there’s never any doubt that it’s still Iron Man’s show. Don Cheadle’s War Machine effectively swoops in and obliterates the occasional steel goon, but Robert Downey, Jr. is the man casually kicking away a car and creating a sexual charge with every finger snap. Iron Man 2 is one hell of an entertaining and often exhilarating film, a slam fuck that doesn’t exactly break your pelvis, but you may walk away with a limp.

They Live (1988)

They Live is an 80s Sci-Fi/Action flick about a guy who finds out that Aliens have taken over the planet. The Plot (via IMDB):
"Nada, a down-on-his-luck construction worker, discovers a pair of special sunglasses. Wearing them, he is able to see the world as it really is: people being bombarded by media and government with messages like "Stay Asleep", "No Imagination", "Submit to Authority". Even scarier is that he is able to see that some usually normal-looking people are in fact ugly aliens in charge of the massive campaign to keep humans subdued."
The movie stars former WWE superstar turned actor Rowdy Roddy Piper and (the very underrated) Keith David. It is one of the best known B movies in existence and it has reached cult favorite status for two reasons:
2) Possibly one of the most quoted movie lines in existence: "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Speak on it! - Grindhouse
I liked Grindhouse. I think its impact is actually very culturally underrated. Not only did the Tarantino and Rodriguez movies pay homage to the genre, they actually intrigued me enough to go back and watch a few of these flicks, to see what I've been missing.
With that being said, the movies were a commerical flop. Not because they weren't any good. The movies flopped because somebody thought that it would be a good idea to release Grindhouse on Easter-fucking-Weekend. Why and Who The Fuck, thought that would be a good idea is beyond me. Common-Fucking-Sense dictates that no one would go see this type of movie on that weekend.
Easter Weekend is for Jesus, Tyler Perry movies, Pixar movies, or even something involving Queen Latifiah. Not for movies indulging in sex and violence. Duh!
You learned a hard lesson, Hollywood. It upsets me that it came at the expense of two good movies.
Please get your head on straight.
As was once stated in The Big Lebowski, "You don't fuck with The Jesus!"
Street Fighter Legacy
This is a fan made trailer for Street Fighter Legacy:
*sigh* I wish the Hollywood produced Street Fighter movies looked
half as good as this.
District 13: Ultimatum
The movie is a direct sequel to District 13 and takes place 3 yrs after the first. As we can tell from the opening credits, the slum is still in shambles, the is no law and something needs to be done.
That aside, you don't watch movies like this for plot and story, -Yes it has one, and yes its decent-you watch for the action, the fights, and in this case, the Parkour. For those that don't know, parkour is (loosely defined as) running and jumping on walls or other obstacles and in this flick there's Parkour all the way. Parkour chases, parkour fights, and parkour deaths. I imagine the women would watch to keep their men company, but also to gander at the shirt-less and sweaty athletic men.
Its not a bad movie and the soundtrack is actually not bad. I liked it and I say you should check it out on a slow day, or with a few close friends. If the French can keep up with movies like this, maybe we can be friends.
Violence? The bulk is martial art violence, but some people do get shot.
Explosions? A small amount.
Nudity? But there is one gross out scene where a Cop goes undercover as a woman and the director saw fit to continually get shots of him in a thong. Major points lost for that right there.
High Kick Girl!

I enjoyed this flick.
What's it about? well, at its core, its about a cut Asian high-school girl who kicks people in the face. I'm clearly oversimplifying, but there isn't really much more to it than that. The movie is just fight scene after fight scene and each one outdoes the previous. She spends the movie trying to impress her teacher with her strength and gets captured. Shit gets real when her teacher gets involved to rescue her.

2012
The plot (courtesy of IMDB):
"Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation from unprecedented solar storms, learns that the earth's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and that without proper preparations for saving a fraction of the world's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis stumbles on the same information. While the world's leaders race to build "arks" to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world."
Wow, that sure sounds stupid. Not just the plot summary, but the character of "Jackson Curtis," who is played by John Cusak. I wonder how 50 Cent feels about that?
Cult Classics & B-Movie Posters
The Tarantino/Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse renewed an interest in the old Grindhouse movies.

Billy The Exterminator

Billy The Exterminator is actually a pretty wicked reality show that you can find on A&E. It is basically about a family who happen to own and operate an extermination business. Billy is the most active son and the one whom the show is centered around.
The family has a good sense of humor and while they do terminate insects, the other pests (beavers, alligators, raccoons, etc.) are handed over to a nature preserve after being checked for rabies. Billy provides the comedic moments as he finds himself in some of the most off the wall jobs. For example, he was once called out to remove a Fire Anthill that was threatening a gator park. In reaching the anthill, he had to cross the gator pond and at one point was surrounded by no less than 10 hungry gators.
While completing his tasks, he provides critical info such as how to find an animals den (beaver/coyote) or how they get into your homes through cracks and crevices (roaches/wasps). Overall, its actually a pretty interesting show and I think you might like it if you gave it a shot on a lazy day.
Its Official: HOLLYWOOD out of Ideas!!!!
In a move that shocked absolutely no one, Hollywood has announced that they have officially run out of ideas. Just about every concept has either been done or beaten to the ground. "Yeah man, Vampires, Zombies, Rom-Coms, we've done them all," said our insider. "Every time we try something 'different' it fails. The retreads makes us money and we'd be stupid to fuck with a winning formula."
"Actually, we ran out of ideas a few years back. We've been putting out absolute bullshit for years and milking established franchises for a while now, how each have gotten #1 status is beyond us. But you chumps keep buying, so we keep making them. We've figured out the formula. The public is too simple, you don't demand much, so they don't get much. Men want explosions and titties, Women want relationship dramas and half-naked dudes, children want talking animals and bright colors. Am I oversimplifying? Yes, but the formula is simple. why change it? When you do catch on, we'll either blame piracy, make a shitty movie and market it to your kids, or create some 'new' visual like 3D and the cycle begins again. We can't lose. Yes everything has been done, but if we tweak it enough and/or add a big enough star, you'll watch. You always do."
