Tony Stark/Iron Man. Sitting On Top Of The World...(via)
I cobbled together these Iron Man 2 reviews. I haven't seen the flick myself, but I figure these might help.
I Heart Chaos:
And so you could take Iron Man 2 just within its 90 minutes and say that it wasn't this or that, or you could look at it as part of a larger whole, which is how it's intended to be received. I do agree that perhaps that there wasn't quite as much polish it seemed at times with Iron Man 2 as their was with the original, but the end result-- the thing as a whole-- is much better. Anyway, Iron Man's not about brooding and getting all moody and hiding in the shadows. That's Batman's job. Iron Man is more about kicking ass and having a damn good time doing it. Oh, and suitcase armor. I want some.

To sum up (and repeat myself): Iron Man 2 is very much a comic movie sequel. the first one set up the premise, the characters and the world, now the sequel focuses on being bigger and more badass. Iron Man 2 certainly does that and does it very well, making it totally entertaining. I don't think I'm wrong for wishing that IM2 was a little slower and more character driven, but I also don't blame you if you like IM2 better because it is significantly more awesome than the original. Maybe the reason I'm complaining about this is that RDJ's Stark is such a great character I wish I could have spent more time with him in the sequel. If so, that's a hell of a good problem for the Iron Man movie franchise to have.

All of which is to say: Yes, there are flaws in Iron Man 2 and an overly meticulous critic with a buzzkill boner could get stuck in the morass and fail to see the forest for the mushmouth. My biggest fear about the movie was quelled, too, which was that all of the extra characters would take the focus off the movie’s biggest asset: Robert Downey, Jr. But there’s never any doubt that it’s still Iron Man’s show. Don Cheadle’s War Machine effectively swoops in and obliterates the occasional steel goon, but Robert Downey, Jr. is the man casually kicking away a car and creating a sexual charge with every finger snap. Iron Man 2 is one hell of an entertaining and often exhilarating film, a slam fuck that doesn’t exactly break your pelvis, but you may walk away with a limp.

Despite its shortcomings, Iron Man 2 is one helluva good time. It may not have the most polished delivery in terms of story, but for the most part it attains its many narrative goals. It has fun action set-pieces, an intriguing central dilemma for its main protagonist, and a pair of compelling villains. The original film had a novelty to it that simply can't be replicated, but as far as comic book movie sequels go Iron Man 2 is a cut above most and one gloriously fun set-up for The Avengers. 2012 – the end of the world aside – can't come fast enough.

“Iron Man 2” looks absolutely gorgeous, and Robert Downey Jr. is spectacular as the loud, crass Tony Stark the Playboy, and equally brilliant as the sullen, private Tony Stark who spends what brief, private moments given to him by his hectic life to ponder his mortality, with his father’s shadow continually hanging over him. Nevertheless, there will be complaints, and not all of them will be unjustified. The film lacks the punch that a comic book movie sequel with millions at its disposal should be bringing to the screen. “Iron Man 2” is not bigger or louder than the first film, though it is very much just as good. The fact is, the sequel is almost completely at the same level as the first film in every way, which depending on your expectations going in, will either satisfy or disappoint you. As a big fan of the first movie, I appreciated Jon Favreau’s ability to remain on the same wavelength two years later, but others may find it less accomplished in terms of bringing the superheroics.
