Guillermo Del Toro



Guillermo del Toro (born October 9, 1964) is a Mexican director, producer, screenwriter, novelist and designer. He is mostly known for his acclaimed films, Blade II, Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy film franchise. His films draw heavily on sources as diverse as weird fiction, fantasy and war.

Is a label given to a series of foreign language films that would not be as noticed without his name attached. The man knows quality work and wouldn't attach himself to something he wouldn't feel, is worthy or something he wouldn't have made himself.

The Orphanage (2007) - The plot centers on Laura, who returns to her childhood home, an orphanage. Laura plans to turn the house into a home for disabled children, but a problem arises when she and Carlos realize that Simón believes he has a masked friend named Tomás with whom he will run away. After an argument with Laura, Simón is found to be missing.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006) - Pan's Labyrinth takes place in Spain in May–June 1944, five years after the Spanish Civil War, during the early Francoist period. The narrative of the film interweaves this real world with a fantasy world centered around an overgrown abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature, with which the main character, Ofelia, interacts.

Cronos (1993) - In 1535, an alchemist builds an extraordinary mechanism encapsulated into a small golden device. The invention, designed to convey eternal life to its owner, survives its maker until 1997, when it shows up with an antiques dealer. Fascinated with the strange device, Gris doesn't note that there's more than one person looking for it. The promise of eternal life has become an obsession for old and sick Mr. De La Guardia. He and his nephew will do anything to get the Chronos Invention.

The Devil's Backbone (2001) - In 1939, during the last months of the Spanish Civil War, young Carlos is brought to an isolated orphanage by his tutor. Believing he will stay only until his father returns from the armed services, Carlos is shocked when his tutor abruptly leaves him in the strange new location. In reality, Carlos's father had died in the war, leaving his son in the care of the orphanage for the foreseeable future.
