A simple man is turned into a genius through the application of computer science.
I remember when I first watched this flick. Mind. Blown. While it doesn't maintain the same level, after a few years, the movie is still surprisingly decent. Plus a beardless Jeff Fahey!!
The Lawnmower man, is about a man, Job, who is a church handy man/neighborhood lawnmower. With the help of virtual technology and serum, he goes from "simple" to "one of the smartest men on the planet with predictable dreams of world domination. All while a shadow agency manipulates things in the background because their aim is to produce a human super weapon/soldier.
Job finally stands up to the priest and then checks his reflection in a mirror. In that moment, you can see that shit is about to get real. Funny thing, if the priest had his way, job would have stayed stupid and this whole thing would have never happened. Along with a change of his physical appearance, He soon develops the ability to read minds as well as move objects with his mind.
After a slow start, this becomes one of those, typical scientist creates monster, monster becomes too powerful, shit gets real movies. Overall, the story line is serviceable, and by the end, you actually do care for its characters. The movie's 3hr running time definitely hurts it. Clearly the journey from simple to genius, cannot be done instantly, but some fat could have been trimmed.
The Lawnmower Man was before its time. If they had the graphic capabilities of today, people would still be talking about this flick. Also, I think they just gave up when it came time to name this flick. If its on, why not give it a shot? You'll probably think of ways to improve it.
