Depressed, overweight teen Troy, it's about to step in front of a bus and end it all when fate enters in the form of Marcus, a free-spirited street musician.
After Marcus saves Troy, they find out that they go to the same high school. Owing him a favor, he asks Troy to help him get some stuff from his place after school. There he introduces him to some rock and tries to ignites his passion for music.
Marcus, is a burn out and after he is kicked out of his band he crashes with Troy at his place explaining to his dad that they are starting a band. He gets Troy drum lessons from his former bandmate and as he sucks at first, his self esteem hits an all time low, but his father buys him a drum set to practice with and as Troy gets into the music scene, he begins to open up and enjoy himself and display confidence he never knew he had. Eventually, Troy discovers that Marcus is a junkie and puts forth the effort to help him get clean.
Fat Kid Rules the World aims to be an Inspirational film about two dudes who find each other and save each other. Based on a book of the same name, I imagine that the book handles Marcus' drug problems in depth. The film however acknowledges it, but doesn't dive too deep because the film was about the fat kid and his redemption.
Directed by Matthew Lillard, (he of the Scream franchise) There was a lot of buzz online about this film and it received a ton of support from online users. I'd say it was a pretty solid effort and a pretty decent film.
Violence? No
Explosions? No
Nudity? No
