***An iCheckmovies Listed Movie Review***
The Marx Brothers are at their sidesplitting best in this raucous political satire, in which Chico, Harpo and Zeppo co-star as spies and counter spies.
Groucho, as Ambassador FireFly, is assigned with the task of saving the country of Freedonia from financial ruin. The governor of Sylvania is trying to cause a coup and take over freedonia. To that end he hires chico and zeppo as spies to help bring down firefly.
Duck Soup is Vaudeville humor at it's best. There's not a lot of slapstick comedy but the entire film is basically a set up to the jokes of the Marx brothers and everyone else plays the straight man. There is a lot of song and dance and the jokes come fast and furious. So you'd have to pay attention to catch them all.
Fun Fact #1: Vaudeville humor is mostly enjoyed by men.
Fun Fact #2: In Duck Soup, Groucho has the painted on version of his iconic moustache as it hadn't grown in yet.
Violence? No
Explosions? No
Nudity? No
Groucho makes so much more sense now. I guess this should be seen.
